It is with a very heavy heart I lost my sweet Do Lou on 11/14/17 he is now at the rainbow bridge waiting for me...

Well its been a LONG time since check in and last year has been a very up and down year for meez I have lots of tummy issues now and skin issues vet has me on cerenia injections for nausea which has helped meez feel better and otomax for my ear and convenia injection when needed for my skin. I am on 3.5 L right now and doing pretty good my appy is very up and down and meez Bean gives me cypro if I needs it in addition to meez regular meds. I mostly like watching TV with meez Bean and laying on her pillow at night. I love chicken baby food too

Meez Birthday

Well hello all its been some time since I posted in my Woo's blog he just turned 13 this past February 27 hard to believe its been 13 years since the day he was born by c-section at the clinic where I worked and assisted with the surgery and watched one of my vets bring him to life since he was born so very very weak my little miracle guy. Of course now he is far from little quite overweight but overall doing pretty good for all his health issues. This past year was not as good a year for him seems like he went from one minor health issue to another so his BG's have really been up and down this year mostly up since when he is sick his insulin resistance really shows its ugly self. Right now his average dose of lantus is 6u. Been as high as 8u just 2 months ago. Overall he seems to be feeling better this year with the exception of his allergies are already flaring. We hope to have many many more happy birthday's with my special boy!!!!

Well its been way too long since we had a update we are doing pretty good and are back on lantus he is on 7u now and is seeing some blues fairly regular. Had a allergy bath the other day and skin is really doing well on the zymox shampoo and leave on rinse. I use the soft blue e collar on him for a day on days when I use just the rinse on his belly to make sure he does not lick it before it has the chance to soak in. His belly has now a slight covering of fur and most of the itchy bumps of the summer are gone. He still vomits about once a week and I use pepcid most of time for this with occasional use of cerenia. Overall he is doing well he lays by me many a night while we watch hulu tv.

back to levemir

Been back on Levemir now since Oct 6 hope we see better numbers soon he has been too high lately and bouncing bad so giving Lev another shot. He had a allergy bath today with zymox overall his skin is much better but he is still getting these random itchy bumps.

Well we are currently very happy with zymox for his skin issues he is still in his blue e-collar but hoping that as his belly heals up he will soon be e-collar free I tried him without it and that was a big mistake and he chewed on his belly again so do not want a repeat of that disaster. He has been playing with his crinkle ball daily which is so cute he follows it by sound. I took a movie of him today listening to a woodpecker on the house he was too cute will post it soon:)

He has not felt well last couple of days talked to the vet and we shall make a trip in this week if he does not improve he seems more himself this morning and hopefully we will get through today with vomiting. He is down to 6.75 u as of now.

6/13/12

Well we continue to battle his allergies we have started the allerderm topicals to see if it helps and also fatty acid supplement in addition to atarax which seemed to making him odd so trying zrytec 5mg today and see how he does with this. Up to 7.5u of lantus now and I think part of this is the on and off pred which I hope to stop if the antihistamine helps. He had a sulfur dip last week trying to go every 2 weeks with those and hope to stop altogether is the allerderm works. His skin is getting too dry from the sulfur.

Hi All Iz is doing pretty good not as itchy myz Bean is going to give meez another stinkyez allergy sulfur dip today I hates them but theyz do helps me to feels so mush betters. My Beanz sayz Iz is on 6.5u rights now of lantus. Mores laters

Well we have been back on lantus a month now and between fighting his allergies and using pred his numbers are still pretty up and down but slowly getting better. He is up to 5.75u as of this morning. He had his 3rd sulfur dip on Monday and his skin has showed amazing improvement it would appear that most of his bumps are allergy related not all but at least I feel pretty confident that a skin biopsy at this time is not going to be needed. I call the vet today he has mentioned a possible food trial which not sure if we will do or not I did this years ago when he had his allergy testing and not many of the hypoallergenic foods are low carb so just have to wait and see we may try them.

Well I am so behind in posting:( Do Lou saw Dr. Joe last week for his skin at this time the vet did not feel like his assorted bumps were cancer but more due to his allergies BUT of course no way to know for sure without biopsy. He wanted to treat them for 2 weeks and see if we saw skin response before talking about putting him under anesthesia. So he is on baytril bid, pred every other day a 1/4 a pill and sulfur dip once a week he just had his second dip yesterday and I am to call the vet on Sat with a skin report his skin does seem to be looking better overall. As of now he is on 4.75 of Lantus of which we also returned to last week in the event the Lev was not agreeing with him. His appetite has also been down the last 2 weeks I am wondering if its his higher numbers or the baytril going to also bring this up when I talk to the vet.

Well Do Lou continues to do well he is now on 4.5 levemir and overall numbers been staying in blue for most part still been itching way too much so finally gave him a sulfur dip hoping it helps poor thing has had several baths in last couple of weeks and now hides when I put the portable heater in our room a sure sign of a upcoming bath.....more later

1/26 what he up too?

Well not sure what Mr Do Lou is up to these past couple of days on 1/22 he went low 3x in a 24 hour cycle something he has never done and now we have since skipped 3 shots reduced his dose by 1.75 and he is still doing well yeah the Bean here is just totally baffled. He is still itching way too much I ordered a bottle of cortisoothe shampoo and he will get yet another allergy bath when it arrives. Gave him a dose of pred today and I think I will have to use low dose pred off and on again to slow down his attack on his face he is just going to tear his muzzle up he keeps itching it so much. I have a soft e collar on him but its not enough. He has also slowed way down on his dry not sure why?? more bafflement for the Bean until next time.....

some progress 12/24/11

Well we went back on levemir on 12/14/11 and ever since then we are slowly seeing better numbers right now he is staying at or I should say around 6.75 with some varying of skinny vs fat he has seen greens several times as well as blues and is staying out of pinks for the most part overall doing much much better urinating and drinking is way less now we are still using the glucoard 01 or relion confirm which are bascially the same meter and comparing to the alphatrak every other day now. I do not intend to ever go back to the FSL again it just cannot be trusted. Do Lou was cute today he was trying to take some ornaments off the tree so will post them to the blog soon

Meter nightmare begins

OMG how can meters be so far off well it has come to our attention in a big way how inaccurate the freestyle lite meter is with cats... for weeks now I have thought he was doing well until recently as noted in previous post that he was showing signs of needing more insulin even though the FSL meter said he was doing great. Well as anyone who goes to his SS can see he is doing poorly its almost back to square one I think jeez I am so annoyed and I am not the only one on the FDMB board having issues. We are slowly getting back up in dose I am upping him every 4 doses for the most part to get him out of the 300 and 400s I mean 400s of all things scary for his kidneys. Been using R pretty much 2x a day a least as well.
